    Dear Readers,

As a longtime Patagonia photo editor, it was a true privilege to work on Unexpected: 30 Years of Patagonia Outdoor Photography with my late mentor Jennifer Ridgeway, our founding photo director and creative visionary.

The images and essays selected for Unexpected span a range of experiences that reflect the storytellers and the era during which they were captured. Rereading the book today, there are essays that some will find offensive. Since the time of publication, Patagonia has revised our editing standards to be more rigorous and include a diversity of perspectives. We commit to being more respectful and inclusive as we move forward.

    Sincerely,
    Jane Sievert
    Photo editor, Unexpected
